50,000 MT RSPO-certified palm oil traced by UTZ CERTIFIED

Today RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil ) and UTZ CERTIFIED reached an important and encouraging milestone. With today's announcement in the UTZ traceability system we went through the 50,000 metric tons barrier. Officially 52,227.30 metric tons of sustainably produced palm oil have been traced since the traceability system was launched last December.
Since the Principles and Criteria for sustainable growing of palm oil were approved by the members of RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) in November 2007, a growing number of plantation companies have become certified against these. Sustainably grown palm oil is now available from Malaysia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. More companies from more countries are in the process towards certification.
In end markets we notice a growing number of companies which publicly commit to sourcing certified palm oil, e.g. Ahold, Unilever and Neste Oil.
