Sara Lee - with leading brands such as Douwe Egberts, Senseo®, Maison du Café, Marcilla, Merrild, Café Pilao and Moccona - cares for coffee, the people who grow it and the planet it comes from. The company works to make its coffee blends more sustainable every day!
In 2009, Sara Lee will procure 26.500 tons of UTZ CERTIFIED coffees, a tenfold increase compared 2004.
Sara Lee decided to partner with Utz Kapeh in 2004 because this program offers us broad access to mainstream sustainability since it is a non restrictive program that offers support to all origins and production systems. The focus on good agricultural and business practices results in better productivity and product quality for our brands. The system rewards quality and stimulates farmers to seek possibilities for improvement. Finally, the robust Chain of Custody offers real transparency for our consumers & our customers in Foodservice.

Improving living conditions for small coffee and tea producers
The work of the DE Foundation is guided by a clear vision on sustainability, ''best in class'' working methods that we apply to projects all around the world.
The aim is to support farmers to get organized, to provide examples of best agricultural and management practices and to ensure access to markets with better prices. In the projects in coffee and tea producing countries, the DE foundation makes learning easier and more effective by encouraging producers to work in groups.
In participatory processes, the DE foundation supports producers in developing their entrepreneurship by offering them knowledge on how to improve productivity, quality, production and processing efficiency.
